The Art of Nurturing Positive Relationships
7 Proven Strategies
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably met a lot of assholes in your time.
I just can’t help but often wonder, “why are some people such a grump”?
Being a pessimist is easier than being an optimist.
Optimism is a skill.
It’s the belief that things will get better over time.
Don’t confuse optimism with complacency.
Which is the “go-with-the-flow” mentality of “everything will work out on its own”.
That’s the biggest hawk of horse shit I’ve ever heard.
OK ok…before you get your panties in a wad. Just hear me out…
I’m a big believer in something greater than me.
I call him God.
But you can call it whatever you want.
Universe, Source, Chocolate cake…I don’t care. It just needs to be bigger than you.
When something doesn’t work out as intended, I’m often reminded that it’s God’s will (and when it does work out, it’s still God’s will).
I turn to prayer. This is an action. Therefore, not complacency.
Don’t get confused.
It’s incredibly easy to turn a blind eye and not talk to God (or chocolate cake).
Now time to get to the main topic of today’s letter.
Building Strong Relationships.
Building strong relationships is not simply about having a lot of friends or being popular.
It’s about having a positive attitude and taking action to actively build and maintain positive relationships with the people in your life.
1. Make an effort to stay connected with people you care about
Make sure to reach out to them on social media or via text messages, emails, etc. Showing genuine interest in their lives will go a long way in strengthening your relationship with them.
2. Spend time listening to the people around you
Take the time to really listen when someone is talking to you, instead of simply waiting for your turn to speak or giving advice right away. Be attentive and try to understand the person’s point of view before offering any advice or opinion.
3. Offer support whenever possible
Even if it’s just through words of encouragement or a listening ear. This goes back to taking the time to listen—people appreciate when they know they have someone who supports them, no matter what they’re going through in life!
4. Be honest and authentic in all your interactions with others
That includes yourself! Being honest doesn’t mean always saying yes; it means being able to speak up for yourself in a respectful manner when something isn’t right for you (or vice versa). No is a complete sentence. So flex your no.
5. Respect boundaries between yourself and others
This includes physical boundaries as well as emotional ones. Respect other people’s space, both literally and figuratively; don’t push too far into their personal bubble without asking first!
6. Find ways to show appreciation towards those closest to you
It could be through random acts of kindness, sending thoughtful cards/notes, or just making sure they know how much you appreciate their presence in your life!
7. Make an effort to stay positive
Even when things get tough! It can be easy to get caught up in negative thinking patterns but try not to dwell on them too much; try focusing on the good things around you instead (including yourself!) so that you can spread more positivity throughout your circle of friends/family/colleagues/etc., which will ultimately strengthen those relationships even more!
Remember that true connection comes from:
Make sure these qualities are present any time you interact with another person (especially yourself!)
